“If you can write it and you can say it, you can do it.” In just one sentence, Professor Eric Claville managed to bring me closer to the study of public administration. Sitting in the Introduction to Public Policy class, I was immediately intrigued by the idea that through effective communication I could improve policies and programs to better serve the public. Professor Claville's lectures allowed me to think analytically as I developed an academic policy brief titled "Enforcing a Statewide Texting While Driving Law in Arizona." I was soon faced with the idea that public administration was not just an agent of change, but a tool to realize my passion. It is a possible path to take on a leadership role that would make a difference to disadvantaged groups. A degree in Sociology strongly influenced my decision to pursue a Master of Public Administration (MPA). Academically, I have remained consistent in excelling in all tasks I have undertaken. I learned about group dynamics and how different approaches are used to solve the problems they may pose, which are important for serving the public effectively. It also exposed me to extensive program planning. During my research internship with Dr. Zina McGee, I successfully created a research-based program that would help minority youth address victimization. This experience further sparked interest in this field, particularly in social program planning. Selecting courses such as Public Policy and Statistics also expanded my knowledge in the area of ​​public administration and data analysis. Through my rigorous coursework, I have gained the background necessary to think analytically, solve problems, and communicate effectively, both in writing and… mid-paper… creativity as a scientist. I contacted PROF, who encouraged me to apply. I would really like to work under your guidance for my PhD, believing that graduate training at your university will enhance my knowledge, give me broad exposure and develop my skills to do independent research. I consider myself an enthusiastic and hardworking person and I am sure that my stay at your university will be very fruitful. I am aware of the hard work and perseverance required to complete the MPA program at George Mason University. I possess the aptitude and have demonstrated the drive needed to handle the rigors of university studies. In conclusion, given the objectives mentioned above, the AMP program has great relevance and potential to build on my previous academic and practical experiences and to equip me with an understanding of efficient public service delivery.
