Some people believe that abortion is moral because the fetus is not human until birth. The counterargument for this belief would be that the fetus has the potential to become human. Therefore, fetuses deserve the same right to life as every human being, and abortions deny fetuses the right to life. “Fetuses also have a precious future, as in their future there are experiences, activities and projects that they will learn to appreciate. Therefore, killing a fetus deprives it of a future like ours and is therefore grossly presumptively immoral” (Nichols 494). There are some cases where abortion is justified. “If all fetuses have the right to life, and if abortion always involves killing, then abortion can be justified only when (1) the fetus is not innocent, or (2) the killing is not direct” (Sumner 107) . Abortion is justified only when continued pregnancy kills the mother or the pregnancy is due to rape or incest, but this only applies to less than 1% of abortions
