Teen pregnancy has been a major epidemic in the last century. It affects not only countries such as the United States, Mexico and England, but also countries such as Canada and Sweden. The great baby boom epidemic started it all not only in the United States but around the world. Many people wouldn't think that Canada had a problem with teen pregnancy rates, but it was one of many countries caught up in the baby boom era. Most people did not know that pregnancy rates not only include live births but also miscarriages and fetal loss rates which many people fail to include in this category. The main purpose of the research was to show trends in teen pregnancy in Canada alone from 2001 to 2010. Researchers believe that pregnancy has decreased by almost 20% since the research began in 1974. Most people think that This information may not be that important, but it is for educators, service providers and even policy makers. Teenage pregnancy numbers were compared per 1000 women aged 15 to 19. Some Providence facilities did not want to participate in this study, so they had to estimate the number of abortions per clinic which allowed them to conduct the study for adolescents aged 19 and younger. In the years prior to 2008, CIHI reported a decline in teen abortions not only in one county but also in others. From 2001 to 2005, teen births and abortions decreased in 10 of 12 Providences by 14.8 percent, the largest decrease ever seen. The researchers found that birth rates and abortion rates among adolescents both decreased from 2001 to 2010. Birth rates decreased by 15.6 percent while abortion rates decreased by 24.2 percent. Both rates decreased by 20.3% from 2001 to 2010.
