Overpopulation is considered one of the most dangerous problems that affects our world very seriously. Our world is now completely overpopulated. People suffered a lot due to overpopulation. Since overpopulation causes many other problems, for example, due to overpopulation, it is easier to contract and spread diseases. And it leads to food shortages. Overpopulation also causes a problem to the environment because the population produces a lot of waste and one day the earth will not be able to handle this amount of waste. The media will play a very important role in making people aware of this problem and starting to solve it. And one of the smartest ways to discuss the problem and raise awareness among people is to present it to the public in an ironic way like a comic. Let's take these two cartoons for example. The first cartoon shows the earth as a beaten human, which shows us how the earth suffers from overpopulation. The second cartoon also shows the earth as a human being, but this time he (the earth man) is washed by a lady, which shows us the amount of pollution caused by this problem. Although both cartoons deal with overpopulation and its effects on the earth using some persuasive techniques, yet the cartoon of the earth man and that woman is much stronger and more persuasive, thanks to the clever use of some techniques such as irony, exaggeration and symbolism. Both cartoons use irony to raise awareness and open their eyes to the effects of the problem. Verbal irony by definition is the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning, while situational irony is the difference between the way things are and the way they should be . As for the first panel, the ir......middle of the paper......population. Both cartoonists used this technique well to show the effects of overpopulation, but perhaps the latter is clearer than the former, as it shows more aspects and effects of the problems using this technique. The use of these three techniques sends a very clear message to people that overpopulation is affecting the earth and our world in a very negative way, not only that, but the second cartoonist managed to show people that overpopulation is leading to many other serious problems, which alert people to the dangers of that problem and stimulate them to start looking for solutions and answers to that problem. In the end, both cartoons successfully depicted the problem using these three techniques. However, the second cartoon seemed to be more successful in getting the message across to people due to its more intelligent use of irony and symbolism.
