Grant's courage most likely allowed him to reach the top of his ranking, assigning him this special task during World War II. Being a soldier in general requires courage in difficult situations, which is why Grant didn't question whether or not he should go to the farm to ask for refuge. Grant goes straight to the nearest house despite the risk of the family colluding with the Germans. The Frenchwoman gains courage by hiding the British soldier in her house not once, but twice in the same spot. Although her husband was killed because of Grant, she still offers him refuge in her home without hesitation. Although the title of this story, Courage, may refer either to James Grant, or to his being a soldier during World War II, or to the courage of the Frenchwoman to hide Grant twice in her house despite the consequences, courage can be considered both Grant and the French family
