America is often known as the land of opportunity, a place where you can be free. Many immigrants came to America to have a better chance at success in life. Immigrants took a leap of faith when they came to America, for some it worked out well, but for others they had a hard time here. Despite the difficulties faced by immigrants such as; standing out from others, being separated from their families, and breaking their culture, immigrants are still grateful to be in America because they were in better conditions than in their homeland. When you look at interviews or look at an immigrant's perspective you get a lot of answers about being in America, some of the main things that stand out were the amount of freedom of the immigrant and the age of the immigrant. These two things have had a huge impact on the opinion of America from the perspective of immigrants. For some people fitting in comes naturally, but for others it was a different story. Immigrants often had difficulty blending in with Americans because of their clothing, the way they spoke, and the way they approached people. As you read about the experiences of immigrant children, you will find that some adapt because of their independence, while others do not adapt because they follow their parents' wishes. In the book Living In Two Worlds, it seems that it was natural for Aisha to adapt to the Americans, it was as if she was a born teenager. She “was dressed like any American girl her age: big gold earrings, baggy jeans, and an oversized sweatshirt” (Kosof 19-20). Her father hated that he brought her to America and that he was the reason she got the American flu in... middle of paper... immigrants made sacrifices. Not only parents were affected, but also children. By looking at situations from the immigrants' perspective and how they express things the way they do, you will be able to see that they are more than grateful for the opportunities given to them.
