eChoupal has been providing services that increase the efficiency of all stakeholders along the value chain. These services were offered through the website, which embodies the sense of "community". The website includes real-time weather information and forecasts; the best agricultural approach practices; crop information; market information; experts in panel form on general issues and personalized questions; and relevant news. The new services have completely redesigned the old supply chain, leading to significantly reducing the inefficiencies highlighted at several interfaces along the chain. ITC has introduced information technology in agricultural activities in India. . eChoupal kiosks have been set up to facilitate a new supply chain. This new supply chain integrated with technology has faced several challenges in the past. The following sections will expose the inefficiencies of traditional supply chain management; describe ITC's eChoupal initiative; and analyze how eChoupal improves the soy supply chain. The future platform will also be discussed. Traditional soy supply There have been several inefficiencies in the traditional supply chain. First, the only means of finding out prices is the mandi. While farmers can predict the price of previous days, they cannot know the real price in advance before reaching the mandi. In this way, they have to incur significant logistical costs. Without real-time information on price and demand, farmers cannot make effective decisions about when/where/how much to sell or produce. Since the selling price is not discovered before reaching the mandi, farmers earn low profits or even run a deficit, leaving them in... half of paper... ...showcase their farming practices through the information site of eChoupal. Since physical networks are deployed across large areas, ITC may want to apply the eChoupal concept to other products as well to take advantage of economies of scope. They can leverage e-Choupal procurement to improve the efficiency of other products. In the future economy, agricultural activity would be largely driven by consumer needs. The demand for variety would increase. eChoupal's physical network will consist of strategic locations where it will be possible to classify and route customized supplies to meet different needs. Additionally, ITC may need to have the ability to trace the origin of products. Having set up e-Choupal, ITC can easily integrate future consumer needs into the eChoupal network. eChoupal has provided a solid business platform for the future.
