Hamlet, play and film Hamlet by William Shakespeare is the story of a king who was murdered by his brother and the prince was asked by his father's ghost to avenge his murder . The original plot has been changed a few times since it was written. The original Hamlet in the play and the modified Hamlet in the film are shown differently in many different ways. The film Hamlet with Mel Gibson shows different things than the play, but there are three main differences between the two. The three main differences are how both productions begin, differences in the scene players enact, and differences in how the productions end. The first difference is in the way the play and the film begin. The play begins with the guards standing guard at the castle along with Horatio, Hamlet's friend. The guards and Horatio are awaiting the arrival of Old Hamlet's ghost to find out why he is there. The ghost comes twice but does not speak. The scene ends with the guards and Horatio discussing whether they should convince Hamlet to try to talk to the ghost. Hamlet, the film begins differently. It begins with King Hamlet's funeral with Gertrude standing next to the coffin. Hamlet sprinkles dust on his father's corpse. The coffin is then covered and Claudius, old Hamlet's brother, places his sword over the coffin and Gertrude cries. The second difference is the way the scene is with the player getting on his knees....
