Arthritis is a joint disorder in which a joint is an area of ​​the body where two different bones meet (National). Over the years, many machines have been created to help people with disabilities assist them in life. The developers of the Envision Discover Design Invent Execute project also known as EDDIE, developed a manual bass drum pedal for arthritis patients because the laws of physics were required to do so. People with arthritis are protected by the American with a Disability Act (ADA). One of the few issues with this project is whether or not people will see those who use this invention differently and whether they will feel comfortable wearing it. The EDDIE project is to design and create something that can help people with disabilities and also to show society that there are always new ideas out there to help others, all they have to do is be able to create them. EDDIE is also a way to help students understand and know what kind of difficulties people with disabilities face every day and that they should not be treated differently than anyone else in the world. People with arthritis face daily difficulties and it is even tiring for them to walk, carry, write, tie shoes or anything that affects the joints while they are involved in movement. “Approximately 350 million people worldwide suffer from arthritis, including nearly 40 million in the United States, including more than a quarter of a million children!” (National). Arthritis is the most common disability as many people suffer from just one disability – it is up to us as a society to help create something that makes the lives of people with arthritis easier.
