Most people today benefit from food. Sometimes leftovers are thrown away and become waste. Students don't see the point that there are many people going hungry nationwide. As this tragedy continues, there are many non-profit organizations supporting, helping, and fighting this hunger nationwide. There are some examples of non-profit organizations fighting hunger in America such as Feed America, Project Bread, Hunger Project, and Hunger Site. There is also a non-profit organization in Anchorage that fights hunger. The Alaska Food Bank and Bean's Café are just two major organizations fighting hunger in Anchorage. The Alaska Food Bank has partnered with Feed America while Bean's Café has not. Both organizations started in 1979, but Bean's Café is the one that stands out and makes the organization well known to people who live in the area. For 34 years, Bean's Café has been feeding hungry people in Anchorage, Alaska. The goal is that no one goes hungry anymore. Behind those 34 years of success, it all started when Bean and his mother bought their first truck, a blue Ford pickup. Bean and his mother named him Tucker. Once upon a time Bean and his mother decided to go on an adventure. They drove from Boston to Alaska. For that long traveling adventure, Bean only has toys, books, drawing boards, crayons, and lots of pillows on the mattress he and his mother slept on during the adventure. When they were hungry, Bean would open the sliding windows, lean toward the front of the truck, and announce, “Bean's Café is open! Can I take your order?" (Bean, 1997). During that moment of Bean's play everything began to become reality. His mother began to like Anchorage and, apparently, there is no place where street people can eat , rest, read, shower, watch TV, make phone calls, or just relax. In 1979, Bean's mother talked to dozens of people about making this idea a reality and subsequently signed a five-year lease on a small, empty warehouse in. downtown, in front of the Sheraton hotel. Next day, people started to put all the materials to build this Bean's Café. Then people started to come to eat, rest, organize and donate growing up, they realized the lack of attention towards needy and hungry children.
