Business Ethics 2Business ethics is a certain behavior that a company follows when dealing with people in the business world. Many companies have gained a bad reputation because they are only interested in making money, an example of this would be the Enron case. Many of today's major companies have been fined large sums of money for unethical decisions. Ethical business behavior improves the well-being of individuals because it promotes such things as generosity and compassion for one another and for one's customers. Ethical behavior among companies can be improved when there are conferences between the organization's CEOs and their employees that talk about the organization's standards. One way to find out if there is an understanding of ethical behavior is to ask employees if they understand the core values on which the company is founded. If they don't know them, employees may unknowingly engage in unethical behavior that the company may not tolerate (2007, November 9). One in three large companies offers some sort of ethics training that helps their employees overcome difficult situations. For example, these programs will help employees better understand and handle situations when they are faced with a situation involving unethical behavior exhibited by another employee. If companies do not have any of these programs, they can expect their employees to make unethical decisions (White). In recent years, companies such as Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and Wal-Mart have hired chaplains from many religions to work for the company. . Members of the God Squad, as they are called, will visit employees in the hospital, respond to personal problems, and help employees cope with any...... middle of paper ...... where religion was a important part of the workplace for many people until Professor Maskulak brought it to my attention and suggested I write an article about it. I knew that ethics played an important role in many large companies, but I didn't know that these companies went so far as to incorporate religion into business. Insight 2 - I found it interesting that companies like Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and Wal-Mart branches were hiring chaplains of different religious beliefs to visit employees in their time of need. For example, God Squad members may be called upon to visit employees in hospitals, deal with people suffering from nervous breakdowns, and even talk to people who are going through difficult times. I think it's a great idea and shows how much these companies care about their employees, and lets employees know that the company thinks about them outside of the workplace.
