Topic > Narrative Life of Frederick Douglass - 1100

In this essay I will discuss the narrative of the life of Frederick Douglass and how his life was representative of the narrative of slavery. First I will talk about the difference between urban and plantation slavery. Then I will talk about each type of slavery through the events Frederick Douglass experienced. Finally I will describe the impact of slavery on race relations. Many people have a different way of thinking about Fredrick Douglass's narrative, so some people may think that his description of slavery was adequate while others may think that his narrative was not right. Many people say that the story was an autobiography of his life and others say that the story was written to reveal the brutal acts of slavery and the hardships he went through as a slave. During most of Douglass' childhood he did not have difficulties like other slaves, but as the years passed and the older he got, the more difficult it became for him as a slave. He not only lived as an urban slave during his childhood, but also lived as a plantation slave during his old age. The life of an urban slave was not like the life of a plantation slave. Fredrick Douglass gave a good description of the events that occurred in his life, but one cannot simply abandon his stories because his life as a slave is different from that of a plantation slave. So the book tells how he saw things and what he felt. The things he experienced in his life were the same and in many ways different from those of another slave. The great Fredrick Douglass tries to describe the life of a slave as best as possible. He does this because he could only talk about slavery through the events he experienced because slavery was different to other people and different...... middle of paper ...... owned and that they could do what they wanted with They. They did not care about the welfare of the slave. They viewed slaves not as people, but as a profit to be made. Unlike the south, the north had a slightly different point of view. They still treated African Americans as an inferior race, but some of the Northerners at least treated them as somewhat humanely. I think slavery was wrong in the first place, but if it hadn't been for slavery many of the things that happened might have happened.___________________________________________________________Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass chapter 1 page 24Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass chapter 1 page 24Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass page 49Story of the Life of Frederick Douglass page 70Story of the Life of Frederick Douglass page 102
