They are the 49th most densely populated country on earth with 656 people per square mile and a life expectancy of 71. By currency one USD (US dollar) would be equivalent to 107.95 JMD (Jamaican dollar), but a dozen eggs would cost 253 .78 JMD which would equal about $3 for us. But what are they like and what do they eat? This is what I'll tell you. Jamaica's national dish is Ackee and Saltfish. Ackee is Jamaica's national fruit but is not a native plant, it was brought from West Africa and introduced to Jamaica before 1778. "Salt fish" is salted cod that can be boiled and then sautéed with boiled ackee , onions, tomatoes, and peppers. But ackee is toxic if not prepared properly, so many people who don't know how to handle the fruit buy it in cans, most people who eat ackee and salt fish are usually Jamaicans who have left their home. But we're in trouble...
