Every year thousands of mice, dogs, primates and other animals are victims of vivisection around the world. These experiments are inhumane, ineffective and absolutely useless when alternative testing methods exist. These animals suffer painful suffering and sometimes death due to scientific research into the effects of drugs, cosmetics, food additives and other chemicals. Animal testing is an act of barbarism, the fact that animals are bred to be victims of crude experiments and then killed is cruel. An eye irritation test is a test in which albino rabbits have a substance inserted into their eyes which are held open with clips for between seven and eighteen days. Rabbits are confined in shackles with only their heads protruding while experimenters record eye tissue damage that can range from swollen eyelids, inflamed irises, ulcerations, bleeding, massive deterioration and blindness. Many rabbits break their necks while struggling to escape the pain. Another fierce test is the acute toxicity test, also known as lethal doses or poisoning tests. This test determines the amount of a substance that will kill a percentage of a group of test animals. The substances are introduced into the animal's body via tubes to the stomach, cuts in the throat, inserted into the eyes, mixed with food or inhaled through a gas mask. Reactions to this test may include seizures, heavy breathing, diarrhea, constipation, emaciation, writhing, rashes, and bleeding. The trial period continues until at least half of the animals have died, which is approximately two to four weeks. Please note that anesthesia is absent during these procedures. Animals should not be victims of vivisection when they have the same right to be here as us. . The money used for animal testing could be used for a project with better potential. Animal testing should not be acceptable considering all the alternatives that technology has the power to offer. The abuse of animals in medical experiments is a flaw of humanity, the sooner we put an end to it the better.
