In our modern society, friends are always shown by virtue of social media like Facebook. Facebook brings people together and creates a surprisingly sophisticated cyber image of a Facebook user. In the field of social communication people often use this wonderful medium and it has ultimately created a world of virtual friends. Thanks to its virtual community, people consider this medium more than nothing, as stated by Niedzviecki, 2011. Furthermore, Facebook's large virtual community often engages its users, particularly young people, for a long period of time. Therefore, Facebook is also considered a time-wasting digital tool (King, 2011). However, after being operational since February 4, 2004, Facebook has attracted approximately 1.1 billion users in its decades-long existence (Wilson, 2014). Facebook has been unique in keeping up to date with friends' lives, expanding the social network, and providing an active flow of information. These social communication features have led Facebook to rapidly gain popularity among its users. Facebook, compared to other electronic communications, allows for a better understanding of how the user is doing. By keeping up to date by posting photos, statuses, and sharing others' feelings, Facebook users enjoy their freedom of communication and friendship. However, some unhappiness and tiredness are also reported. Some users actually spent more time, as stated by King, 2011: "I was unhappy and felt empty. The amount of time I was spending on Facebook had pushed me into an existential crisis." This satisfaction depends on the nature of the users and the way they manage the media towards their goal. Konnikova, 2013 described two types of experiences on Facebook, active and passive. He quoted: “Demands on our attention lead us to use Facebook more steps...... middle of paper ......dCristian, G.
