A decade of much misfortune and prosperity is that of the 1960s. If you can remember anything about it, then you weren't part of it; the 1960s, a very popular era known as the sixties. The sixties were a time of great change. People's lifestyle had completely changed at the beginning of the decade. It was the first decade that was radically different from the previous one. It is the decade that will set the trends for the entire future. It started a great progressive movement, created mistrust across the country, and ultimately, an innovative period that paved the way for the age of technology. The United States, during the 1960s, was a very progressive time for our country; the way people lived there changed dramatically and has never been the same since. The counterculture of the 1960s is the protagonist in this progressive period; from the widespread use of drugs, to the British invasion of music and, very importantly, feminism. After the Korean War, the CIA came across information that prisoners were being brainwashed with a “truth serum.” They acted quickly and started during the human search; the research was called MKULTRA. They administered LSD and other hallucinogens to test subjects. After the research was finished, Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters began doing tests of their own; this test included close friends and family. The disclosure came from their live fire tests, which included many more people. After the new drug scene, he played an important role in music. The 1960s transformed classic rock into a new psychedelic rock. This new form of music was born out of drug use and people wanting artistic music, as opposed to regular rock. The first great wave of feminism came from the flappers; in the 1960s the second wave arrived and was bigger... middle of paper... opening to the progression of the counterculture, caused one of the greatest distrusts in the world, and led away for equality for women.
