Alexander the GreatIn the ancient world there were several leaders who brought immense glory to their empires, but there was one leader in particular who marked his legacy on much of the known world at that time . He was Alexander the Great: king of Macedonia, pharaoh of Egypt and lord of Persia. Alexander had become king of Macedonia in 336 BC after the assassination of his father. He led his army to victory in the Persian territories, Syria, Egypt and to some extent India without suffering a single defeat. During his 13 year reign, Alexander had conquered many empires and leaders in the years to come, but none were able to live up to Alexander's legacy. He was generous with people who gave up and ruthless with others. However, he was the conqueror of many territories, was respected by all and never imposed his culture on others. He died at the age of 33 of unknown causes but his legacy remains. Alexander's cultural tolerance and acceptance facilitated the administration of his empire as he did not impose his cultural views on others, he was a phenomenal military strategist, and his political leadership was very effective in spreading his empire. Culture was an important part of society in the ancient world and is still present in many parts of the world today. Cultural differentiation has led to the fall of many empires. Alexander never imposed his culture on others, despite having a diverse empire. This is evident when Corey Fordock, an ancient history expert, states: “Alexander proceeded south to take control of Egypt. The Egyptians did not resist and even praised him for having rescued them from Persian hegemony. This is probably due to the fact that Alexander did not force...... middle of paper ......rented regions, but was never able to achieve the immense glory that Alexander had brought to the throne and empire . Alexander inspired many leaders and empires in the years to come, but none could live up to Alexander's legacy. In today's society Alexander has taught various people and is recognized as a source of inspiration for potential leaders. Work cited Burgham, Michael. Alexander the Great: conqueror of the world.
