Fight in the Middle River In the book "The Middle River" we find the traditional values of the tribe challenged by members of the tribe who had converted to Christianity. The novel focuses on the struggle between two conflicting interests: the first was the interest in converting Africans to Christianity, and the second was for the tribe to try to maintain their traditional values in the midst of Christianity. The most contrasting characters in the story were Waiyaki and Joshua. Waiyaki had a strong influence on the people of the land, and his father, Chege, was a man who had powerful visions about his son's future: "Salvation will come from the hills... Arise. Hear the prophecy" (p. 20). Waiyaki's father placed the burden of this prophecy on his son's shoulders. The realization of his role in this prophecy came to Waiyaki at the end of the novel: "...the journey with his father, the ancient prophecy, and his bewilderment. before its meaning" (p. 138). "Now he knew what he would preach if he ever had another chance: education for unity. Unity for political freedom" (p. 143). Chege told Waiyaki to learn from the whites, but not to get involved in their vices: "Learn all the wisdom and all the secrets of the white man. But do not follow his vices" (p. 20). Waiyaki began to learn that knowledge and learning were important for his people to overcome the white man's invasion. Waiyaki also understood that the tribe's traditions were what that held their people together, were their roots: "Circumcision was an important ritual for the tribe. It held people together, it bound the tribe... By putting an end to the custom and the spiritual basis of the tribe" the cohesion and integration of the tribes would no longer exist" (p. 68). And even if... in the midst of paper... formed, Western revolutions in both religion and government were willingly accepted by Western cultures But the Western invaders never realized how ancient these civilizations they were intruding into were, and never realized. I realize that African, Chinese or American Indian cultures were thousands of years old. Western cultures impacted many countries, such as India, because when ancient invaders came to the country, such as the Aryans, Eastern Indians. they accepted some of their beliefs and were even integrated into Indian society when modern Western cultures came into contact with India, especially the British, they eventually took over the government and made Indians second-class citizens. And until the 20th century India was under their control. So Western cultures have definitely had an influential impact on other cultures.
