Human Resources Roles and Responsibilities Document Human resource management is described as "the policies, practices and systems that influence the behaviour, attitudes and performance of employees." (Noe, R., Hollenbeck, J., Gerhert, B., Wright, P. (2003). Fundamentals of Human Resource Management, 1e McGraw-Hill Companies.) The human resources department is essential to the progress of a 'organization. When a company is equipped with a good human resources department it will tend to grow and prosper. The department's role is to identify employees who are worth hiring and know how to determine where they will fit within the company. Another role is to know the laws, establish company policies, monitor benefits and salaries. With the ever-changing economic state of the market in today's society, companies must realize the importance of having a skilled department. Knowing how to present strategies and policies that will help a company stay above water in times of financial crisis is of the utmost importance. Human resource management is influenced by changing trends in society. Three that have been chosen to show how the role of human resource management is changing according to these trends are:1.
