Topic > Different Perspectives on Bullying - 1807

Everyone has been a victim of bullying or has met someone who has been bullied at some point in their life. Whether physical or verbal, both can be extremely traumatizing and can have a long-term psychological influence on children's development. Most people can define bullying in a more physical term; however this is not always the case. The act of bullying can happen in different ways and actually affects the individual in the same way. Bullying is generally defined as repeated, negative, and harmful goal-focused actions over time, which display a sense of power difference between the bully and the victim (Olweus, 1993; Limber & Mihalic, 1999 cited by Douglas J. Boyle, 2005). In the United States, a survey was conducted according to which over six million children, approximately 30% between the sixth and tenth grades, have suffered frequent episodes of bullying in a school environment (Nansel, 2001 cited by Douglas J. Boyle, 2005) . Many people might argue that bullying is something that every child experiences and that it is simply part of growing up, although there are several harmful consequences that occur to the child's brain. Bullying causes the child to feel upset, isolated, scared, anxious and depressed. They feel like they are being targeted because there is something wrong with them and they may even lose confidence, feel unsafe going to school (Frenette, 2013 cited by Douglas J. Boyle, 2005) Anthropologically, sociologically or psychologically, the Bullying can be analyzed through different perspectives and different questions can be asked based on the topic:1. Has bullying existed in the past and has it increased or decreased in recent centuries?2. What social factors influence... middle of paper... conflicts can get out of hand, and if bystanders don't speak up and take a stand, bullying will still continue to dominate innocent children. . You don't need to be a highly educated person to know that bullying is wrong and stand up, all you need is a heart and a sense of humanity. Works Cited1. Barbara Coloroso. (2002).
