How far are individuals willing to go to fight for the love of their lives? In the story “The Mechanics” by Luis Rodrigues portrays the life of Enrique, a blue collar worker who throughout the story fights for his marriage and the love of his wife. Enrique began working in a steel mill at a very young age as an apprentice carpenter, it was the best job he managed to get without the need for studies. Enrique got the job at the paper mill soon after marrying Espie. He needed this job to help support his wife and future children. Work at the mill promised up to fifteen dollars an hour, all benefits paid, and a pension. To obtain these benefits, workers had to dedicate a large part of their lives to the factory. Workers were expected to spend most of their time at the mill, which left little time to spend with their wives and family, which led to arguments and divorces. Unfortunately for Enrique, he too had to go through this harrowing process, but not without fighting to save his marriage. Classic love stories are mostly about how far individuals are willing to go to save their love. In “Mechanics” it is a classic love story as it depicts how far a certain individual like Enrique is willing to go to save Espie's love and marriage. Enrique is willing to do many things to demonstrate the love he has for Espie, including marrying her at a young age and protecting her from things he perceives as harmful. Enrique also recognizes that he was hurting Espie by being an overprotective husband and decides to let her go. Love is a very strong feeling shared between two individuals that makes them want to be and spend time together. The feeling of love is that... in the center of the card... two individuals, but unfortunately if you don't take care of this love it can end.
