His life was tragic and full of irregular events. Indeed, this unusual life had a huge effect on his writing and career. He depicted the lifestyle of his time in his works. In most of his stories, people would find an expansion of the events of his life. In his two short stories "The Tempest" and "The Story of an Hour" and in some of his other works he denoted many events of his life. Kate Chopin is one of those writers who were influenced by life and her surroundings in their fiction writing, and this was very clear in most of her works. Kate Chopin was born Kate O'Flaherty in St. Louis, Missouri in 1850 to secure and socially prominent parent, Eliza O'Flaherty, of French-Creole descent, and Thomas O'Flaherty, an Irish immigrant and successful merchant. Kate attended the Academy of the Sacred Heart in St. Louis from 1855 until graduating in 1868. In 1855, her father died in a train accident. He lived at home with his mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, all widows. Her great-grandmother, Victoria Verdon, oversaw her education and taught her French, music and gossip about St. Louis women of the past. Kate O'Flaherty grew up surrounded by single, intelligent, independent women. Victoria's mother was the first woman in St. Louis to obtain legal separation from her husband. She was influenced by her upbringing among these women. This came out later in his narrative. For example, in his first story “Wiser Than a God” he featured a strong, independent woman. This woman had exceptional musical talent. He prefers... medium of paper... in his writings he addresses many problems of his time. She was an inspirational person for feminist movements. In fact, it has awakened women's awareness of their rights and freedom of choice. She was truly a great woman. Works Cited Chopin, Kate. Complete novels and short stories. Ed. Sandra M. Gilbert.
