Society is a living organism. The military and police, just like the immune system, protect against invaders and criminal elements. Just like the digestive system, industrial plants derive energy from raw materials. Just like our veins and arteries, roads, waterways and railways transport these products into our bodies, and just like the colon and bladder, waste products are collected in landfills and sewer systems. However, above all these vital organs lie our bones. , which frame our body and allow us to move forward correctly. And like Jesus, the importance of our bones is often forgotten. Jesus is the model of the 21st century Christian life by providing a framework that allows society to move forward in a morally correct way. This framework is what is known as the ethical teachings of Jesus. An example of Jesus' teachings is found in Matthew 7:13-14. “Enter through the narrow door. For the gate is wide and the road is broad that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the door and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” If God offers humanity the freedom to choose between an easy life or a difficult life, then it is inevitable that humanity will choose the easier option, even if it ultimately leads to destruction. Imagine finding yourself in front of two gates; in one direction the gate you see is attractive and invites you to enter. You look inside and are faced with enticing advertisements jumping at you from every angle, promising power, wealth and happiness. It seems simple. There doesn't appear to be a toll and the road is wide enough to enter easily. Crowds of people, places and things that promise to offer all the tools that make life more attractive and comfortable, in the middle......in the middle of paper......and contempt. This leads to violence. Violence leads to abuse. Abuse gives rise to war. Each side aims to end the other's attacks with retaliation on a scale so large that the other cannot bear. Unfortunately, the expected result of such a paradox is almost never achieved. How can victory be achieved by "exchanging an eye for an eye" or, on a more realistic level, participating in war? This is the foundation that Jesus is trying to establish. We find ourselves involved in a struggle in Iraq that seems to have no solution. Perhaps with the help of Jesus' teachings we can find that solution. Jesus serves as a model of 21st century Christian living by providing society with a framework or guidelines. Perhaps through the teachings of Jesus we can find the heart beneath the organs of hatred, materialism and power.
