The algae growth in the lake feeds on phosphorus caused primarily by fertilizer runoff from local farms and residences. Microcystin, a toxin that causes liver problems, is produced by the growths and has caused serious health problems for wildlife and people who use the lake. It is our moral obligation to clean up this disaster otherwise it will continue to harm the wildlife and environment in the lake, as we are the only ones responsible for it. Organizations such as the Ohio EPA and Buckeye Lake for Tomorrow have taken note of Buckeye Lake's pollution and are formulating plans to restore the lake to its former glory. Our plan is to provide a short-term solution for the lake through the dredging process, while a much larger and more permanent solution will be implemented
