The prevailing discussion about the nature of work environments has been the focus of many studies conducted by scholars examining the management approaches used and their influence on how employees respond to strategies implemented by management. Considered as key “dominant traditions of work organization” (Noon et al, 2013, p.140), Taylorism and Fordism are of great importance as they transformed work organization in the 20th century. The tenets of these two dominant ideologies have influenced the nature of work tasks and the skill levels of the workforce. It can be argued that these approaches have changed the working process by introducing greater amounts of formality and structure. This, in effect, has contributed to the unresolved conflict among scholars over whether labor is becoming less or more skilled. The principles of Taylorism and Fordism are still evident in today's modern working contexts, so in this essay I will seek to explore and critically analyze the impact and influence of these approaches on modern management practices and employee well-being....
