Have you ever noticed that one of your friends was sad, it seemed like something more than that, that is depression. Depression is much more than being sad occasionally: it's a serious illness. This disease causes many to hide from others and feel worthless. Depression is an illness that has always existed. This disease is in the brain, it is a chemical imbalance that makes a person excessively sad. Along with this, sometimes they even want to end their life. Even though depression is so bad, society takes it and makes it seem like a way to get attention. This has led to not doing enough for people suffering from depression. Depression is a real illness and we need to deal with it. Every day a new person is diagnosed with depression and still not enough is being done. For example: “It is estimated that up to 20% of adolescents have at least one episode of depression during adolescence. 10% to 15% of adolescents may show some symptoms of depression but not qualify for a diagnosis of clinical depression, and up to 5% of adolescents are depressed. The average duration of an episode of depression is approximately eight months; however, these episodes tend to recur within a few years. (Depression in schools). This ties into this statement because it shows how many actually suffer from depression with numerical facts. This only provides more evidence of how many people actually suffer from depression. Depression is one of the problems. This was written to explain that although there are schools that could provide services for depressed teens, there is still not enough depression. Schools are still too focused on the fact that they want students to pass and, well, make the school look better. This causes students to become more stressed, which doesn't help a depressed teenager. Much still needs to be done for the latter
