Young learning minds should have as much time as possible to learn. With standardized tests taking unnecessary class time away, children suffer. Teachers also struggle to rush and teach lessons that should be more detailed. The standardized testing schedule affects the entire school experience perhaps for days or even weeks at a time. To compensate for this change in schedule, the material is not taught in the most effective way possible, which is to give teachers as much time as possible to review this material. According to Gilchrist (2015) “The average student will take approximately 112 standardized tests in his or her public school career” (para. 1). 112 tests is a lot and all this time is spent away from the classroom. Ross states (2015) “The average student in a middle school will spend approximately 19.8 hours on testing in a school year” (p.6). Too much time is spent on standardized tests, testing children's ability to understand tests, taking away class time that could be used to teach them how to understand. Testing children does nothing but deprive them of their precious classroom time. Standardized tests are a waste of valuable classroom time and should be reduced or
