Technology and Learning In today's world, technology is everywhere. Children are exposed to technology practically at birth. It is common to see newborns looking at the TV or computer screen and playing with their parents' cell phone or tablet. Teachers from preschool to college have begun incorporating technology into the daily learning agenda and are seeing positive results. Schools are getting to the point of using computer-based educational applications for a quarter of the school day to improve student learning. This isn't the only way technology has aided learning. There are many programs that teachers use to facilitate children's learning. Computers can help teachers make learning fun. There are many computer programs that teach lessons in the form of games that children enjoy and encourage them to want to learn. There are even computer programs like Rosetta Stone that can teach anyone, child or adult, to speak a completely new language! Technology has truly skyrocketed people's ability to acquire knowledge. Schools are following a rapidly accelerating trend called blended learning and this is where children will spend a portion of their day engaging with technology (Halpert). Technology isn't just present in elementary schools, iPads and tablets are also incorporated into preschool learning programs. Two- and three-year-olds play interactive games on tablets and iPads. At a very young age children are exposed to interactive learning and seem to learn better because of it. Teachers have software that can demonstrate which area the child needs to improve, whether it is vocabulary or critical thinking, and provides the child with educational games or quizzes that aim to improve those areas (Roxby).
