Aditya“The Speech of Infamy and the 9/11 Speech”America has been hit by two terrible tragedies. September 11th and Pearl Harbor. Franklin Roosevelt and George W. Bush, two American presidents serving during the war, aimed to create a sense of loyalty in their speeches “The Speech of Infamy” and the “9/11 Speech” through ethos, pathos and the logos. Let's see how each of these men took action against this attack on America. George tries to take control of it as calmly as possible. George quotes: “Immediately after the first attack, I implemented our government's emergency response plans. Our army is powerful and prepared." (American Rhetoric 1) George has control and the ball here. He knows America is under attack. One question to answer though is that during this tragedy he was in an elementary school. When he heard that there had been a terrorist attack, why didn't he take action and help America, as he states in his speech? FDR has a different approach to the situation. Quote "As commander in chief of the army and navy, I have ordered that all measures be taken for our defense" (feats without eagle 1) Very simple and direct. It took him less time to respond to the public than it did for George W. Bush, as stated in his speech: "In fact, an hour after Japanese air squadrons began bombing Oahu, Ambassador Japanese in the United States and his colleagues delivered to the Secretary of State a formal response to a recent American message. Although this response stated that it seemed futile to continue existing diplomatic negotiations, it contained no threat or hint of war or armed attack” (eaglefree Enterprises). 1)...... half of the document ......er Japanese planes launched a sneak attack on U.S. forces stationed in Hawaii, killing more than 2,400 soldiers and civilians and wounding more than 1,000 - Roosevelt appeared before a joint session of Congress and asked lawmakers to authorize a formal declaration of war against Japan Within an hour of the above speech, the United States had officially entered World War II, the deadliest conflict in human history. . "(HuffingtonPost 1) This is an example of how powerful the attacks were on this day. Even George W Bush quotes: "And I was sitting outside the courtroom waiting to come in, and I saw a plane hit the tower - TV it was obviously on, and I was flying myself, and I said, 'There's a terrible pilot.' And I said, 'It must have been a terrible accident.' But I was taken away there: I didn't have much time to think about it. (September 11 research)
