Marriage, for years, has been argued that the rights to it are strictly reserved only between a man and a woman. Both sexes are assumed to marry someone of the opposite sex. What would happen if, instead, an individual wanted to marry someone of the same sex? Why is this debate so heated among individuals? Is it because religion is a great basic structure by which members of society are guided? Or do individuals not understand that marriage is a union between two individuals in love? Whatever the case, there is always someone who has to argue that same-sex marriage is “wrong.” Sam Schulman argues that same-sex marriage is about the duties or roles that these couples perform that would be different from those of heterosexual couples. In his article Gay Marriage -- and Marriage the author turns his argument towards those who are "passionately and instinctively opposed to the idea of same-sex marriage" (Schulman, 2003). Schulman attributes the legalization of same-sex marriage as the cause of the eventual authorization of incest. But that's like saying that if marijuana were legalized, it would lead to the acceptance of cocaine. Even when homosexuals get their legal rights, currently only granted to heterosexual married couples; it will not give rise to the legalization of incestuous relationships and incestuous marriages. Legalizing gay marriage will pose no threat to the structure of society. Society is created with both homosexual and heterosexual individuals. Previously, when some laws discriminated against others, such as the Women's Right to Vote Act, these laws were changed. Changing the country's traditions does not mean that it will lead to the legalization of other extreme issues. Everyone... middle of the paper... and they deserve equal treatment and protection under the law. In conclusion, your article is highly ineffective due to its illogical arguments. While many of his hypotheses may be readily accepted by the public, his attempt to reason with others about his approach is flawed. While his goal of empowering others with his own beliefs may be effective, he still lacks persuasion. Schulman's argument could be strengthened if he removed the statements regarding female sexuality in marriage and contraceptives. Finally, it should actually discuss the views of those who support same-sex marriage, not simply the views of those who are against it.
