The intentional infliction of pain and suffering on children is child abuse and is treated by society as a serious crime. Despite strict laws against child abuse, these cases sometimes go unreported and go unpunished. The perpetrators of child abuse are most often the child's parents. A study conducted in 2005 showed that 79.4% of offenders were parents and 6.8% were other relatives. Nearly one in 100 children in the United States is abused as a child, and an average of five children die every day due to child abuse (USDHHS). Some cases may be worse than others, but child abuse still has a dramatic effect on a person's life as it continues to affect the victim throughout adolescence and adulthood. What effects does child abuse have on a child's life from adolescence to adulthood? Child abuse is a serious problem in our nation. Bridget Schulte of the Washington Post addressed this problem our nation has with child abuse through her article, "Effects of child abuse, if left untreated, can last a lifetime, according to findings" Bridget reported a major study which was irrelevant to others in the past 20 years against child abuse and neglect. Through the study, researchers from the National Academy of Science reported that the harmful consequences of child abuse could reshape a child's brain and last a lifetime. The readings suggest that, if left untreated, child abuse and neglect can profoundly affect a child's mental and physical health. Additionally, the child will have a decreased ability to control his or her emotions, impulses, and ability to form relationships as a child and as an adult. When children are still young, their world often revolves around their parents. Parents are the main foundation of safety,...... at the heart of the paper... of life on board, whether they have trust issues, or whether they simply have the overall impact of altering our brains in a way that makes us seem less important to others, child abuse is strictly prohibited, but is easily overlooked. Whether the witness has suffered abuse or child abuse should be reported immediately to avoid further harm. Children are the future of our society and if they are abused, what kind of fate will the future of their children hold? Protecting them from the harm of child abuse will ensure a positive future for them and our society. Bridget Schulte of the Washington Post who addressed this problem our nation has with child abuse through her article, "Effects of child abuse, if left untreated, can last a lifetime, reports say," was very specific with his article and further influenced the problem that child abuse poses in harming a child's future.
