Contrary to popular opinion, illegal immigrants do not contribute to the United States economy. Instead they cost more by using government-provided services, taking jobs away from native workers, and reducing wages through competition with native workers. Proudly a nation of immigrants, the United States attracts people from around the world because we are a nation of laws. (Demint) For centuries, immigration has been indispensable to the health of our nation, as it will be to its future success. (Demint) Even if this is true, immigrants should still come to our nation legally and not further burden our nation's loyal and already overburdened taxpayers with tax costs. (Demint) Foreign-born persons residing in the United States at the time of a population survey who were not U.S. citizens at birth in 2012 would be 4.2% born in Africa, 29.2% born in Asia, 11.8 % born in Europe, 52.2% born in Latin America including South America, Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean, 2.0% born in North America including Canada, Bermuda, Greenland, St. Pierre and Miquelon. (Migration) The top three countries from which illegal immigrants were reported to have originally originated are Mexico, India, and China. (Migration) With illegal immigration becoming more and more common over the years, one can only imagine how much these numbers have increased. Having illegal immigrants in the United States and how to handle productive immigrants and conflicts with government taxes can cause a lot of controversy over whether they hurt or help our economy. To condone the offense against our government to those who break the law and put them on the path to becoming citizens of our law-based nation would be unjust; it would also simply impose even more unacceptable and major behavior… middle of the paper… and there are plenty of Americans willing to do those jobs. (Ambrosek) The biggest problem with this situation is that not only do illegal immigrants take these jobs, but they allow employers to keep the minimum wage low. If no one allowed wages to be low, employers would be forced to raise the minimum wage to acquire workers, thus benefiting those who would willingly take the job. (Ambrosek) As long as immigrants continue to work in high-paying jobs and not complain or take sides about low pay, everything will remain the same. Considering the quantity of illegal immigrants entering our country, it can be deduced that there are not enough jobs for everyone. (Ambrosek) As long as immigrants continue to come to America and acquire low-wage jobs, they will allow payments to remain low, taking jobs away from willing, needy, legal Americans..
