In Emerson's essay on “self-reliance” Emmerson raises many points about how we should act. For example, Emmerson firmly believes that we should all believe in our own ideas rather than follow the path of others. Emmerson makes this point forcefully: we should not do what others want, but rather we should do what appeals to us. Also in the article “Leviathan” Hobbes explains the survival of the fittest. This refers to how I should act because, as Hobbes explains, government helps control it by providing protection and order. However, if we acted differently and treated everyone the same, we wouldn't have this problem and the government wouldn't have to set these rules. Therefore, I believe that we should act in a way that treats everyone with equality. Not only should we be equal in power, but we should be equal regardless of race or economic status. As in the court case “Plessy v. Ferguson,” train cars are segregated by race. This is not a right way to act. We should treat people equally, regardless of their skin color. When you segregate by race like on these train cars. People forced into some cars are treated unfairly. Therefore, we should act in a way that treats everyone equally. By treating everyone fairly we can continue to work together and create a powerful society
