Abraham Lincoln was a man with the perseverance to accomplish anything he set his mind to. He was a great orator and writer, as well as a great politician, capable of remaining true to his beliefs even when they were not so popular. All these factors made him one of the best presidents our country has ever had. To better understand Abraham Lincoln, a person should examine his childhood, his personal trials, and his love for the United States of America. Abraham Lincoln's childhood showed that he had ambitions from an early age. He was born into a poor family in Kentucky on February 12, 1809. Neither of his parents could read or write. His father did not think that educating Abraham or his sister was important, so Lincoln received only one year of formal education. However, Abraham loved to learn and wanted to improve himself. He taught himself to read and studied books. He also studied law books and managed to pass the law examination in 1837 and became a successful lawyer. In the book Lincoln: A Photobiography, Russell Freedman states that Abraham Lincoln did not like to talk about his children....
