Topic > Persuasive Essay on the Veil - 1609

In recent years, a small piece of cloth has managed to cause quite a stir. The scarf, or hijab, that Muslim women wear on their heads is making headlines around the world. The hijab is banned in French public schools, and other European countries have adopted or are considering similar legislation. In Australia, a radio presenter sparked debate and outrage when he called for the niqab to be banned from banks and post offices. In Canada, however, it is allowed to be worn freely except in places such as airports for security reasons. Some Muslim countries such as Turkey and Tunisia also ban the hijab in some government buildings. When a small piece of tissue causes such controversy and conflict, wouldn't it be easier to remove it? Why then, in such circumstances, do Muslim women wear the veil? There are many different points of view regarding the choice of Muslim clothing, particularly when wearing the headscarf. “I wear it believing it is necessary, but someone else may wear it believing they are doing something more,” Hamna Ahmed said. One of the many reasons why a Muslim may wear the veil is also his personal decisions. Hamna has been wearing it for seven years now, despite her mother and three of her four sisters being exposed. Socially this causes a problem with the meaning of the veil and conflict with other groups. With the many different uses of religion, what it means, what is considered practicing and what is not can lead to negative misunderstandings. Ultimately, however, decisions rest with individuals; there is likely to be a misinterpretation of the meaning of religion for family and society. On an even larger scale, this could impact society as well and it is... middle of paper... reasonable that the social issue could gain social control. The social issue remains how society thinks about certain types of religions based on assumptions from sources such as the media. Using many of the previously listed solutions and a greater understanding of religion and the individual can lead us to gain social control. How these issues are interpreted is influenced by society and often leads to mistreatment. In relation to the article, the lady felt as if she were against a group of people, as often happens when race and ethnicity are added to the sociological problems. Additionally, it is critical to understand that there are two ways to view a religion from an outside perspective. Essentially a religious follower is laid back or "hardcore", but both are busy with themselves and then with the religion they follow.
