Because this poem is so short, everything except every line stands out for its own little reason. The poem begins, “He comes in the night stumbling over boulders.” This makes me think that not only does the poem come across awkwardly, but perhaps much more. For example things like memories, stories, feelings of happiness, sadness, anger or everything in between. The next line says “Stay scared out of range of my campfire.” At first glance I was only thinking about what is hidden outside the fire (animals), but then I thought about the writing process. Which led me to think that perhaps some memories or experiences that stand out more than others are lurking but still need help. Ideas are a little too timid to take a stand or come out without help or modeling. So the final line of the poem reads “I go to meet him at the edge of the light,” leaving me to think about helping those ideas that are lurking and giving them to something beautiful in itself. Not just with words to tell a story, but with images that stimulate our minds, our senses and our emotions at the same time. Creating a unique work of art that we can read and share with those around us
