Is Hamlet a soldier, a courtier, or a scholar? What else is it? Hamlet could be a character who carries with him the strength of his father's revenge who, in the form of a ghost, forces his son to commit the murder of his uncle. It is an elegant character that is not linear but revolves around the influences of different characters. Therefore Hamlet is simply an illustration of an insecure and indecisive character. 'The eye, the tongue, the sword of the courtier, the soldier, the scholar' so Ophelia says of Hamlet when conversing with Claudius and Polonius. What Ophelia is actually saying (in a modernized text) is that Hamlet had the grace of a gentleman, the wit of a scholar, and the strength of a soldier. It happens in act three, scene one and page seven of Shakespeare's play. Throughout the play, Hamlet experiences much suffering towards himself by having suicidal thoughts and towards his family as he sees his mother married to his uncle just a month after his father's death. Hamlet's genre is a mix of revenge and tragedy and Hamlet wants and knows that his uncle killed his father, but because there is a lot of death and murder, it is also a tragedy. There are some aspects of Hamlet that he as a character disapproves of. One of these is Lust, self-indulgent sexual desire (personified as one of the deadly sins); a strong sexual desire; have a craving, appetite, or great desire: for example, his mother marries his uncle. Hamlet disapproves of this as it has only been a month and his mother is already married to his uncle and he acts as if nothing has happened and tells Hamlet that he is happy. There are many views on Hamlet and the kind of person he is.
