Topic > "Silence due to fear" - 1572

The reason people of color are silent when it comes to racism is because they are kept in a state of fear by white people. This is a situation that most people People of color and lower class people face normal conditions. Since my family immigrated to this country from Mexico, we have been in situations that have kept us silent for fear of deportation were taken advantage of because of their fear of being sent back to their home country, including my own family. My grandfather and my uncles were exploited in their work, for years They worked in the vineyards of Sonoma County, and they would had to work about three years from morning until sunset. They were only paid for the amount of grapes harvested, not for the amount of work done. At the time they were undocumented and were afraid of what would happen if they complained or quit the work. Because many immigrants do not speak English or feel they do not speak it fluently, they do not speak up when they see or experience racism or discrimination around them. They remain silent, because they feel that if they speak out something could happen to their safety. We have a feeling that white people or their bosses will call the police to deport us, for speaking out, and then immigration will come after us. The fear of being separated from our families is the greatest fear of immigrants. This fear stems from the bad experiences of immigrants, which instill fear in the undocumented Latino community. After our community is afraid, this fear manifests itself in silence. People in power, white corporate leaders, want to oppress marginalized communities to exploit them to develop fear... middle of paper.... ..thinker before he knew what that meant. We need to understand why people have this silence if we want to know how to solve the problem. The silence that people have is caused by the fear of violence that people belonging to lower classes have suffered. Silence comes from the way people are raised, including the way their parents raise them, the kind of friends they have, and the school and teacher they have. Lower class people are always told to shut up and not speak because it's wrong, but who is it really wrong for? The higher elites don't want people asking questions because they would start to question their reality. It is the job of people who have knowledge of what is really happening to teach new students and blind older people the reality of the world. Knowing their oppression, they will want to break the silence and create change.
