Introduction. Shakespeare's revenge tragedy "Hamlet" illustrates an individual who takes the law into his own hands to satiate an internal need for revenge. The medieval believer in magic and superstitions is portrayed through the depiction of Ghost. The entire plot of "Hamlet" revolves around the revelations of the ghost (Goldman). Hamlet's melancholic attitude and his contemplative moods are described in scene IV of Act I. The characters of the King and the Prince's long mourning for the death of his father are explained. The most important scene of the opera is scene V of Act I. In it the ghost is revealed as the ghost of the dead king, and was murdered by the usurper who is also his brother. Hamlet is ready to avenge the murder. Even though he is ready to take revenge, he procrastinates on it (Prosser). Hamlet is one of the greatest dramatic characters ever created in literature. The fallen prince shows many contradictions; he is cautious and tender, but at the same time he is reckless and ferocious. In Scene IV of Act I, Hamlet and Horatio are seen talking about King Claudius who is a drunkard and only interested in carousing. It is about midnight and Horatio proclaims that it is the time when the ghost appears (Essay Topics, Writing an Essay: Hamlet - Ghost). Hamlet is bold, his courage is shown in his encounter with the ghost. As the ghost makes his appearance, Hamlet faces him fearlessly. (Character traits of Hamlet).
