In the beginning, God descended into the dust of the earth, formed man, and breathed life into him. Man was entrusted with the task of ruling and subjugating creation as God's representative, but he did not have to do so alone. So the Lord formed a woman from the man's side while he slept. Man and woman, created in the image of their Creator, were called to bear fruit and multiply for their joy and the glory of their God (Should Christians use contraceptive methods and reproductive technologies?). Because of this reality found in the Bible, human life in Christian teachings has been considered very sacred; this sacredness of human life is the foundation of all conversations about contraception and reproduction. However, there is a discrepancy in how the church should build on and apply the fundamental biblical teachings and concepts recognized in the Scriptures. This is why Christians have been rethinking and debating their position on contraception as some are simply more careful about its use, while others reject contraception altogether. Now, before examining the different perceptions of contraception, it is useful to distinguish it from the broader category of contraception control since it is almost always used synonymously. Therefore, contraception applies only to “methods and technologies intended to prevent conception”; while birth control refers to everything from abstinence to abortion (Village Church).
