Video games have been around for a long time and are meant to entertain people. As the years have passed, the technology in video games has become more graphic; it went from cartoon looking to real world looking. People now say that as games feel more real and become more violent, young people are becoming more aggressive. Seeing these images also causes them to desensitize to the violence in the world as if they are watching a video game that makes them hurt someone and they think they could press the restart button and everything will be fine. Although children can become violent with video games, there is no link between violent video games and aggression. When I was younger, I played video games all the time and a lot of them were violent. I know these games weren't real and didn't make me a violent person. As I was reading Christopher Ferguson's article, he claims that "More recent research has not found that children who play VVG are more violent than other children, nor are they harmed in any other identifiable way." (Ferguson, 2011). Basically, Ferguson is saying this with all the negativity surrounding violent video games; according to research, children who play these games are no more violent than children who don't. This idea is important because people use violent games to explain why children are more aggressive, but according to research there is no correlation between children behaving aggressively while playing video games. Video games are meant for fun and entertainment. People who don't understand video games see children behaving badly and are the first to blame their behavior on violent video games. As I continue to read Ferguson's article, he reveals... middle of paper... more real and become more violent, there will always be critics who blame video games for the bad and aggressive behavior of young people. As research has found that there is no relationship between violent video games and aggression. Video games were created to entertain, not to put violent images in people's minds. If you are worried about the violence of the games, look at the rating before buying and if it is not age appropriate, do not buy it for your children. Keep teaching your kids about good and evil and let them play because as long as they know what's real and what's not, everyone will be fine. References Ferguson, C. (2011, December 2007).
