Alcohol abuse among adolescents has become a major problem in the United States and, for this reason, represents a barrier to failure to succeed in college. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, young people under the age of 21 have been reported to drink alcohol, so statistics show that young people between the ages of 12 and 20 drink 11% of all alcohol. The number one cause for a teenager to drink alcohol is peer pressure. What does pressure mean? It is when a person's age group is inspired to do something, whether they like it or not. There are a couple of different types of peer pressure. For example: Verbal pressure: This is when someone makes a direct comment to peers in their age group to influence them to do something. Also always knowing what kind of music they listen to and what they watch on TV because this is another cause of drinking among teenagers.
