Topic: technological influences in education, particularly in reading comprehensionObjective: to determine whether the specifically technological environment influences students' aptitude for reading.Literature reviewThere are various studies on reading comprehension reading based on quantitative research method. In this research, it is proposed to implement qualitative research to determine students' reading comprehension. Although statistics can show student scores, it is clear that understanding should be analyzed in context and not just by numbers of texts read. In Julie Corio's study titled “Exploring Literacy on the Internet,” it was suggested that “the ability to learn, understand, and interact with technology in meaningful ways” has yet to be fully explored (p. 458). In an age where children are inundated with information from the Internet and books are already formatted to be read on tablets, laptops and even phones, we question children's ability to understand deeper meanings as they study. The world has become an “instant” and “permissioned” world as people rely heavily on technology to understand concepts. Children display an attitude of entitlement where everything is spoon-fed through the use of technology. Therefore, it is appropriate to do qualitative research whether technology can really positively influence students' reading skills. For Vicky Cohen and John Cowen, in their book “Literacy for Children in an Information Age”, technology is invaluable for children with learning difficulties. This means that technology-assisted learning has opened up a different perspective in teaching children with disabilities due to the different levels of reading comprehension compared to the reading technology used. excluding basic differences. Limitations Since we will be using purely qualitative research, it is expected that the study will be more comprehensive in terms of interaction with participants. This is a weakness of qualitative research compared to quantitative research where statistics and figures can provide explicit data that would empirically strengthen a study. However, it should be noted that reading comprehension is not just about statistics, but how well the student is able to understand what they read in different contexts. As stated by Berry, true “feelings” without reflection would be difficult to understand without the context in which they were expressed (p. 328). This is where the strength of the qualitative research method comes into play and on which we will base the investigation.
