I. Introductiona. I'll start with a quote from John F. Lauerman: “Every year scientists use millions of animals, especially mice and rats, in experiments. The practice provokes passionate debates about the morality and effectiveness of such research and how to make it more humane.” – John F. Lauermanb. Everyone here uses products that have been made safe for human use through the practice of animal testing. Some of these products include the following: sunscreens such as Coppertone, Crest toothpaste, Ivory soap, and Windex.c. Testing on animals makes the products we use every day safe or at least safer for humans. I'm here to talk to you today about the importance of animal testing and why it should continue to happen to make the world safer for you and me. Throughout the history of biomedical research, tests have been carried out on animals (Animal Testing and Medicine). This dates back to early Greek physicians such as Aristotle and Erasistratus, around 350 BC. These two then performed experiments on live animals (animal testing and medicine).II. Bodya. The ethical side of animal testing. Positive moral principles in summary.1. Scientists have a clear obligation to experiment on animals to the extent that this constitutes the alternative to random and potentially harmful experimentation on human beings, and to the extent that such experimentation is a means of saving human lives and of increasing the vigor and human efficiency (the ethics of animal testing) ii. It is therefore the duty of scientists to use animal experimentation as a tool for the promotion of social well-being (ethics of animal experimentation).b. Is animal testing necessary to advance medical research?i. A comm...... middle of paper ......y, but the use of animals in testing is heavily regulated (Rachel Hajar).III. Conclusion. “Every year, scientists use millions of animals, especially mice and rats, in experiments. The practice provokes passionate debates about the morality and effectiveness of such research and how to make it more humane.” – John F. Lauermanb. From listening to my talk I hope you learned a little more about why we should continue to test products on animals to make the world a safer place and help keep consumers out of harm's way.c. Without prior testing on animals, you never know what a product can do. Crest toothpaste, Ivory soap and Windex, these are products you probably have at home that are tested on animals and chances are there are many more, animal testing is a big part of your life and you probably didn't even know it. Q. Thanks for listening.
