The World of Project Management In the business world, the goal is to always be one step ahead of the competition. This means that the organization must improve processes and equipment. Even while these improvements are being made, business must operate as usual. Project managers are the people responsible for ensuring these improvements are implemented or installed. Project management is increasingly becoming a complex role that more and more people within the industry need to master. Today, project organization is used to execute tasks and solve problems of almost every size, complexity, and direction. In many organizations, a significant portion of daily work is accomplished through projects. This is a change from managing one huge project at a time for exceptional purposes. What is project management? To get the true definition of project management you need to understand the two components. A project is temporary in that it has a defined beginning and end in time and has a defined scope and resources. Projects are unique because they are not considered routine operations, but a specific set of operations designed to achieve a singular goal (Project Management Institute [PMI], 2014). Project management is the application of knowledge, skills and techniques to execute projects effectively and efficiently (PMI). It is a strategic competency for organizations, allowing them to tie project outcomes to business objectives, thus making them better competitors in their respective markets (SMEs). Since a project has a defined beginning and end, the project has a life cycle. The project manager uses this lifecycle to manage the project. There is no project life cycle model set in stone. Project lifecycle models are usually unique to… middle of paper… p you with your project management skills. The key to project management is knowing that you are not the first to do the work and you definitely won't be the last. There is nothing wrong with asking questions or asking a mentor to assist you in managing your project. Project management can separate you from the rest of the office if you are successful in your endeavors, so don't hesitate, embrace it and learn to do the work affectively. Works Cited Larson, E.
