Nursing I became interested in nursing when a member of my family was recently diagnosed with cancer and passed away. This tragedy took a toll on me and made me determined to find a cure for cancer. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics/Occupational Outlook Handbook, in order for me to pursue that dream of finding a cure for cancer I have to get all different types of education. Starting with physician assistant and registered nursing, then with a nurse anesthetist and nurse practitioner, finally a doctor. These nurses perform physical exams, administer medications and treatments to patients, and operate and monitor medical equipment. Usually in the workspace they work independently or in collaboration with doctors. They prescribe medications, order medical tests, and diagnose health problems. Finally, they specialize in caring for certain groups, children, pregnant women or patients with mental health disorders (“What they do”). These nurses work in various environments such as hospitals, clinics, offices, schools and birthing centers (“Work Environment”). To pursue one of these professions, you first need a master's degree from an accredited program. I will have to study anatomy, physiology and pharmacology. But I also need to become an RN (Registered Nurse) before I can continue my education in advanced practice roles. I must also have clinical experience, scientific knowledge, communication skills, leadership skills, critical thinking skills, interpersonal skills, compassion, resourcefulness and must be detail-oriented (“How to Become One”). Nurse anesthetists get paid $148,160 a year, Midwives get paid $89,600 a year, nurse practitioners get paid $89,960 a year, working in a hospital pays $101,990 y...... middle of the paper. .....ll. An LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) does “hands-on” work. Such as administering injections and medicines, taking temperatures, drawing blood, cleaning wounds and recording heart rate, weight and blood pressure. An RN (Registered Nurse) performs some of the same duties but works in different areas than an LPN. An RN can work in hospice, emergency care, infusion care, and so on ("What do nurses do?"). In conclusion, becoming a nurse to pursue my dreams involves a lot of motivation, determination and work. I am very motivated and determined to stick with it. I really want to get my nursing degree and pursue my dream of finding a cure for all types of cancer. Soon, getting to become Doctor. The joy that comes from seeing others save lives and help others truly lifts my spirit and makes me want to do the same. If you have the chance to save a life, why not try.
