Film Critique - MementoSneha ChackochanMiami Dade CollegeFilm Critique – MementoItem 1:Which film did you choose to see?I chose to see Memento, written and directed by Christopher Nolan.Item 2:Provide one paragraph ONLY summarizing your understanding of the film. In this summary, address the theme or main idea of the film, as well as any underlying themes conveyed during the production. In other words, what main message was conveyed to audiences IN YOUR WORDS through the production of this film? (Note: I've seen all of these movies, so this section should only be one paragraph; the bulk of your critique should include your responses to points 3 and 4.) Memento is a very different type of film than you normally expect, a film that makes you question the reality of your memories. The film is set in two modes: one in black and white and the other in color, where black and white is shown chronologically and color is shown in reverse order. The main character, Leonard, suffers from anterograde amnesia but is still determined to find the man who raped and killed his wife one night, as Leonard believed. He tries to organize the world around him using notes, tattoos and Polaroid photos. The audience tries to understand the story through the “facts” provided by the protagonist. We know exactly what the main character is aware of. It's a movie that confuses you every time we get close to the "truth", but the question is: is it really the truth or a memory invented by the character to make himself happy? Step 3: Choose at least one major film topic or theme TO CRITICIZE that was discussed during the class lesson / text that seems to be related...... middle of the paper ...... understanding this “truth” does not it simply means looking for a given truth but analyze the whole story and look at it from many different perspectives. There is no absolute truth. I've seen this movie three times and I still can't figure out if it's Sammy or if it was his wife who is diabetic or the fact that Teddy is really John G.? There's so much that could be predicted and interpreted and I think that's exactly what Christopher Nolan was aiming for. There is a remake of this movie in Bollywood called Ghajini, I have seen it a million times and never got bored watching it. Last semester I found out it was a remake of Memento. When I first saw it I didn't like it much. It was confusing and extremely frustrating even though the concept of the film, the overall cinematography and the style of the film were inspiring and remarkable.
