Topic > Manipulation in Othello - 675

He has no regrets for what he has just done, and no respect for his innocent wife Desdemona, whose obedience and naivety have also led to her untimely downfall. Othello is a victim in the sense that he was Iago's puppet, but also a villain in the sense that he always controlled his strings. He accepts Iago's judgment instead of his own, refuses to shed light on the situation by simply asking the two involved if they were actually involved, and even though his wife begged him to acknowledge that she was innocent of any infidelity, he was already in too deep in his jealousy to keep himself from himself. It is important to remember both sides of Othello and learn to distinguish this transformation of him as a character, because what makes a victim can also be one's own tragedy.
