The act is called H.R. 218/Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act. This act states a few things like "meets standards, if any, established by the agency that require the employee to regularly qualify for the use of a firearm." (NRA). This helps by making sure they can shoot accurately and/or qualify for a weapon. Furthermore, they cannot be “under the influence of alcohol or any other drug or intoxicating or hallucinatory substance; and is not prohibited by federal law from receiving firearms." These acts might seem unnecessary, but they help reduce the risk of officers having health problems. They don't want officers trying to harm others or themselves while taking any substance. The “Fourth Amendment: Officer Safety and Protective Search of the Automobile: An Expansion of The Pat Down Frisk” follows that if the officer believes the suspect has reasonable grounds, he or she may search him or her without violating this amendment there is probable cause, if he feels there is a weapon in the car he can do a search (Timothy M. Ison article 5). The officer has the right to do so if his life feels in danger. It is a difficult situation to be in because it is difficult to tell whether the person is reaching for a gun or not; or whether the person has the gun with them. With this amendment it helps the officer if he feels in danger at any time to search the. car and him without violating the amendment. With budget cuts in some states that may not be possible
