Events leading to the involvement of the United States in World War II World War II was a war that demonstrated to the world the extraordinary power of the United States. Many events led to the United States' involvement in the war, capped by the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Many great people helped lead the United States to victory in the war. They include General Douglas MacArthur, General Dwight Eisenhower, and President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. World War II was also characterized by many notable events, including Operation Overlord and the US bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Overall, the United States played an important role in World War II and showed its power through strong generals, its initiative, and strong leadership in major events. Before the United States entered World War II, President Franklin Roosevelt signed a series of documents known as the Neutrality Acts. . These acts were passed and followed between the years 1935 and 1941 and were used to keep the United States out of war.1 The Neutrality Acts limited arms sales to countries not involved in the war, gave the United States the power to keep their citizens away from ships or from traveling to nations involved in the war, and prohibited loans to countries currently at war and to countries that had not repaid previous loans.2 These acts also prohibited American ships from carrying weapons to nations at war. The United States believed that if a warring nation learned that a ship had weapons on board, this ship would be a prime target for that country, thus dragging the United States into another war. The Neutrality Acts helped keep the United States out of World War II until the bombing of Pearl Harbor, at which time the United States aided the British through a "Lend-Lease Program."
